Agite y Sirva 2018 · 10th Screendance Touring Festival

Oaxaca - Mexico City - Puebla
 July - October 2018

Agite y Sirva · Screendance Touring Festival celebrates 10 years of stimulating and maintaining the development of cine-choreography through four lines of action: pedagogy, promotion, creation and research. We celebrate a decade of presence in various cities in Mexico and other countries. Ten years of international expansion of the theoretical and practical creation of Mexican, Ibero-American and international screedance. In its 9 editions (2009-2017) the festival has visited more than 60 cities in Mexico, Latin America, North America and Europe.

The 2018 edition of Agite y Sirva is an annual party that will have as main venues Oaxaca, Mexico City and Puebla, where we will carry out screenings in the presence of creators, a museum exhibition, publication and presentations of books, performances, laboratories and a residence of creation and pedagogy with national and international artists in the Center of the Arts of San Agustín Etla, Oaxaca.

In the 2018 call we received 183 works from 33 countries. From the viewing of the works, each one of us asks questions, we discuss and propose together possible open curatorial responses, from ourselves and to the images playing an alternation of roles between spectator and artist. We respond kinesthetically to the screendances. An update is made, rather than a revision. Our bodies become glances, our glances are crossed by the corporal, the haptic and the carnal, unlike only the ocular and rational. We dialogue and think in pairs, in pas de deux. We make the works play with each other and we make them present. We try to represent networks of sensitive, possible relations. The curatorial process forms diverse programs of screening and for museum exhibition, questioning the spatiality and temporality of the works in resonance with the architecture of the exhibition spaces.

La pantalla como espacio coreográfico (The screen as a choreographic space) is one of the axes of the cinema-choreographic creation, the works gathered in this program give an account of designs, configurations and corporal-visual compositions of movement and gesture as a cinematic image, in which the landscape and the architecture for the screen make up and offer specific spatio-temporal stories and dialogues for this medium.

The program Correspondencias y trascendencias (Correspondences and transcendences) plays, in part, with the sensitive and visible dialectics between female bodies, intergenerational and intercultural conversations that multiply voices and therefore listen, through time, fictions, facts.

Cine-coroegrafías en tiempo fílmico (Cine-choreographies in filmic time) alludes to the latter as a trigger for unusual rhythms, dilations, suspensions, imaginations. In solo, duets and trios, condensations beyond the ellipsis: questions about the temporality of the image of the bodies in state of dance and scene, for the gaze of the body-camera.

What kind of corporalities, presences, is it possible to build through screendance? What to recover and what to register as present body and event data? With the premises of the impossibility of archiving the body, and of the documentation of a body or a dance, it always operates in fragments and partialities, as well as its reconstruction through audiovisual montage, the works that make up the program Presencias en resistencia (Presences in resistance), take us to phantasmagorical states of the psyche and the world, transfigurations through sinuous paths and memories of disenchantment, to finally lead to what the multiple manifestations of resistance can: poetics in awakening and in survival. Bodies in resistance.

It seems to us that these works have a right to take place, to be named, known, recognized. We think that our communities have a right to memory, to remember. To record, reproduce and remember. A right to more free and empowered processes of subjectivation, care, sharing and preservation. We dream, imagine and project Agite y Sirva as a possible poetic counter-dispositive, even if it is ephemeral, as an enunciation of a counter-history through the generation of breakpoints, in the subjective and the micro-political, as tension, desire and resistance to the oblivion of bodies.

With Agite y Sirva we celebrate, we cine-choreograph, we agitate, we connect, we act, we resonate, we reason ... collectively.
